Prosper went forward with the 53, forming Youth in Reconstruction of the World in Destruction, a model alliance of Tutsi and Hutu working together to build anew out of the devastation. Because of their work, hundreds of simple houses have been built for both Hutu and Tutsi families who had lost everything in this place the rest of the world forgot.
Prosper has been imprisoned. An American foundation promised him 160 thousand dollars for building materials and encouraged him to proceed with the purchasing, on the assurance that the funding would arrive. He followed instructions, built the houses and waited for the funding. It never arrived.
A US court has ruled that Ndabishuriye is in the right, but the foundation that reneged has no assets to make good on its promise. The laws and customs of Burundi are such that a debtor can be imprisoned until he makes good. People in several nations are working to see that the cost of all the houses Prosper has built is paid. Details of all this are here.
Meanwhile, his bail has been raised, funds are gathering to support his family, and appeals are being sent to the President of Burundi to protect Ndabishuriye from further arrests while the missing funding for the earlier houses built is being recreated. From prison, Prosper Ndabishuriye sends messages of peace and hope to all his allies, in Burundi and around the world.
