When Amy Cada was a 15-year-old in Downer's Corner IL, she volunteered at a local charity and was turned away as "too young." So she started KidzServ, a nonprofit organization in which all the volunteers are kids. Cada raises money, travels extensively to do workshops and speeches, and created web sites and publications, all making the point that kids are great volunteers.

Bill Cahill of Carmel NY and his neighbor, Jim Baker, were personally slapped with a $64 million suit for conspiracy when they led a citizens' group trying to stop a developer from building 2,000 houses in their small town. Cahill and Baker, who used their own funds to fight the suit, lost their appeal. But reform candidates galvanized by the controversy won control of town government, and the developer made substantial changes and reductions.

Michael Caire of West Monroe LA has two careers—he’s an obstetrician-gynecologist but he’s risked his practice for years by devoting so much of his time to protecting the Tensas River Wildlife Refuge and an ancient Indian mound site, and to saving the endangered Louisiana black bear.

When her brother was injured on the job, Patricia Callaghan challenged what she described as inefficiency and corruption in British Columbia’s Worker’s Compensation Board. She formed the Canadian Injured Worker’s Society to counsel, make referrals, provide financial assistance and improve the quality of life for BC residents who are injured on the job.

Pat Callair of Columbia SC has been a civil rights activist since she was 14, risking her life to help end racial segregation. As co-director of the Southern Women's Project of Grassroots Leadership, Callair works to form voting and lobbying alliances across economic and racial divides.

Michael Callen, a founder of the AIDS advocacy movement, was a champion of people with AIDS for more than a decade. His book, Surviving AIDS explored the reasons why he and other long-term survivors had beaten the odds. He was ostracized by many in the gay community for advocating monogamy.

Angie Camacho, Paloma Camacho, Sarah Cardona, Fernando Becerra, Annette Martinez, Dana Page, Horacio Romero, Rosalinda Ugalde, Raul Velasquez and Alejandro Velasquez are leaders of Earth Niños at the Humphreys School in East Los Angeles. Giving up endless hours of their own time and braving the ridicule of other kids, these 6th-graders planted more than 100 trees at their school and at Occidental College, beautified their neighborhood by planting flowers, picked up tons of litter on their school grounds and around the neighborhood, and led Los Angeles' Unified School District in starting an aluminum recycling project.

Margarethe Cammermeyer earned a Bronze Star in Vietnam and citation as Nurse of the Year by the Office of Veterans' Affairs. After 27 years of service in the Army, Colonel Cammermeyer was asked if she were a lesbian. Her truthful answer ended her stellar career. She went on to champion others who want to serve in the armed forces no matter what their sexual orientation.

T. Colin Campbell, Joan Egner, and Robert Ascher, three highly respected Cornell University professors, put their careers and research at risk to support a graduate student's claim that one of their fellow professors had plagiarized her work. The professors challenged the university and the colleague who was accused of benefiting financially from the student's stolen research. The trio has been rewarded with character attacks, intimidation and threats to their own research funding.

Choosing, despite being educated and middle-class, to live on a block with frequent drive-by shootings, Canada fights for better housing and education, and mentors kids on getting up and out of this destructive environment.
