Husband and wife Michele Gran and Bud Philbrook of St. Paul MN created and direct Global Volunteers, which sends North Americans all over the world to assist on community development projects during their vacations. In the program's early years, Gran and Philbrook used their home as collateral to keep the project funded.

Hardware dealer Tommy Grant of Houston TX spearheaded a fight to ban weak, counterfeit bolts that have been used in bridges, space shuttle equipment, nuclear submarines and power plants. Grant dumped the defective bolts from his own company's stock and got federal legislation outlawing import or use of the dangerous hardware.

Dr. Nicole Grasset of France, co-founder of the SEVA Foundation, has dedicated her life to saving lives and improving health conditions around the world. Dr. Grasset has organized immunization programs, smallpox vaccinations and medical and nutritional programs across the globe.

Suzanne Gray of Santa Fe Springs CA left a well-paying job to start "3's Company," using her own experience as a juvenile offender to counsel kids in California's toughest juvenile halls. Though Gray has serious health problems, she works around the clock running "3's Company" out of her home.

In charge of all the Army Corps of Engineers' contracts with civilian companies at home and abroad, Bunnatine Greenhouse protested the repeated awards of non-competitive contracts to one corporation. She was removed from authority, demoted, given her first bad fitness report and invited to resign. Instead, she launched a legal battle, calling for an independent investigation of the Army's contracts.

Leslie Gregory of Virginia Beach VA was one of five 6th-graders who pushed for stronger legislation to protect children from unsafe toys. They were patronized and ignored by many adults, but they lobbied their legislators, wrote letters to their local papers, and did research at daycare centers. They appeared before the Virginia Assembly and the U.S. Congress as expert witnesses on toy safety, and a bill they initiated requiring hospital emergency rooms to report any toy-related injuries became law in Virginia. High school student Linjalynn Grier of Atlanta GA, a highly-ranked competitive swimmer, goes into Atlanta's toughest housing projects to recruit participants in a free swimming program that she organizes every summer.

N.C. Griffith of Tacoma WA quit his job in video production to train at-risk kids in making television. Living off savings, Griffith set up a video studio where excited teens now learn communications and technical skills while producing music, news and public service videos.
