Claude "Tony" Look of Los Altos CA, a Humboldt County native, has devoted himself to preserving California's redwood forest land since 1955, when a flood caused by slash-and-burn logging washed away his hometown of Bull Creek. Look founded and has directed the Sempervirens Fund, an organization that raises funds to preserve forests in northern California.

June Loomis is one of a group of teenaged single mothers who give speeches to their peers, urging them not to make "untimely choices" about sex. Describing their own lives to show how difficult it is to be a teen raising a child, the girls of the School-Age Parent Speakers Bureau remind their peers that sex can have serious consequences. Sandra Loranger of Santa Cruz CA was repeatedly arrested and finally found guilty of "unauthorized dispensing of free soup and bread to the homeless" at an open air mall. Loranger served 45 days in jail for her regular program of feeding the needy.

Donna Love of San Mateo CA left the considerable comforts of her home to join the Great Peace March, walking 3,706 miles from Los Angeles to Washington DC. Love endured rain, blisters, and scorching heat to talk with thousands of Americans about peace. She went on to do a peace walk inside the USSR.

Boise State student Eric Love of Boise ID led protests against white supremacist rallies in the state, and helped make Martin Luther King's birthday a state holiday, all with the support of fellow African-American students. Love lost much of that support when he spoke on civil rights at a Gay and Lesbian rally; he continues to denounce homophobia.

Pat Lovett has overcome a learning disability, severe shyness and a lack of formal education to speak, teach, lobby, and mediate on behalf of mentally ill patients. After discovering her son was bipolar schizophrenic, Lovett has worked tirelessly, despite personal health and safety risks, to ensure quality care within the mental health system.
