Laura-Beth Moore of Houston TX decided her neighborhood should have curbside pickup for recyclables. Adults she approached for help repeatedly ignored her because she was "just a kid," but after a year and a half, volunteers organized by "just a kid" were moving tons of materials to recyclers and using cash received to plant flowers and trees in the neighborhood.

Harry Morgan of Atlanta GA has devoted his life to organizing grassroots international exchanges, starting with himself in his student days. Morgan hitchhiked and talked his way to Holland to do flood repairs when he was in college. He went on to found Friendship Ambassadors, using tiny donations from Americans to pay for bringing together ordinary citizens from all over the world.

Father Olivier Morins of Bangkok, Thailand has rescued hundreds of people thrown into that city's Immigration Detention Center (IDC) for overstaying their visas or losing their passports. Robbed by corrupt officials, they are left to rot in the overcrowded, filthy IDC. Morins endures insults from officials and puts in endless work hours to jump the necessary hoops and obtain their release.

Pat Morrison of Salem OR risked her life to go undercover and help police shut down a drug factory. Repeatedly donning a concealed tape recorder, Morrison gathered sufficient evidence for the police to bust the operation and put its leader behind bars for 10 years.

Greg Mortenson lived through a kidnapping in Pakistan, a firefight between Afghan warlords, two fatwahs from Islamic mullahs, and a CIA investigation to answer the need for education in the mountains of Pakistan and Afghanistan. His nonprofit Central Asia Institute provides books, schools, libraries and even teacher training to rural areas that might only receive non-secular education. His only condition? Girls have to be educated too.

Luma Mufleh got the idea of organizing and coaching soccer teams of refugee kids in tiny Clarkston, Georgia. Her coaching soon grew into meeting the enormous needs of refugee families, including translating, tutoring, counseling, advocating with agencies and creating jobs.

Michael Munds of Denver CO was born with a severe chronic disease, but he doesn't let the disease or his youth stop him from helping people whose lives are harder than his own. Michael started fundraising about when he started walking and talking. He’s raised tens of thousands of dollars for children's hospitals and for the victims of the Oklahoma City bombing.

Contractor Michael Mungo of Columbia SC challenged the bankers and builders of Columbia to help meet the need for low-income housing there. Investing his own time and resources, Mungo recruited 200 builders and a local bank to join him in building housing for the poor.

Molly Murphy MacGregor and Mary Ruthsdotter of Windsor, California gave up their teaching careers, and invested all their time and money into getting the stories of women’s lives told in the nation's history classes. As founders of the National Women's History Project, the two women got March of each year declared a time for studying women's achievements in schools and colleges across the country.
