Cory Tate of Las Vegas NV has been for years a full-time volunteer and the sometime savior of Gleaners, Inc., the Las Vegas nonprofit that provides food to those in need. Tate mortgaged his own home to keep the Gleaners doors open. His spirit and his 60-75 hour work weeks kept Gleaners going, and have been an inspiration to 170 Gleaners spin-off groups across the U.S.

When she was 12 years old, Camilla Taylor of Cleveland Heights OH started a children's petition for a bilateral freeze on nuclear weapons. Criticized by some as a dupe, Camilla also braved negative peer pressure to take her petition into schools here and in Eastern Europe, finally presenting 110,000 signatures from children in 41 countries to leaders of the US and the USSR.

Nurse Cordelia Taylor was unhappy with the level of care at the nursing home where she worked, so she started her own. Giving up the safety and security of her suburban home, Taylor moved back into inner-city Milwaukee, opening Family House, where residents have both great care and maximum independence, and where the growing service's influence is driving out crime and drug -dealing in the neighborhood.

Sharon Tennison of San Francisco CA devoted years of her life to pioneering citizen diplomacy between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. Tennison brought Soviets and Americans into each others' homes and spearheaded the shipment of food supplies and vitamins to Soviet families. With the collapse of the Soviet economic system, she began setting up exchanges between US business people and would-be entrepreneurs from Russia.

Andrei Terentyev, a lifeguard at a Moscow swimming pool, organized a team of volunteers who paid their own expenses to fly to Armenia and rescue people trapped in debris from an earthquake. Such volunteer efforts were unheard-of in the USSR. Terentyev and his team saved 39 Armenian lives.

Patricia Terry of Mesa AZ founded SWADE (Second Wives of America Demanding Equality) to help second wives deal with the particular problems they face. Terry gives endless hours to counseling her fellow second wives.

Alice Terry of Royston GA worked around the clock to help her students create a 756-page waste-disposal plan for their county. The plan not only saved the Country enormous fines for not having such a plan, it also extended the life of the regional dump for 20 years. County officials started out patronizing the kids, but soon gave them the respect they had earned. (See also SWaMP Kids)

Ezra Teshome was raised with the understanding that one person’s troubles are shared by the entire community. Following that code, he puts his life and work in Seattle on hold over and over again to raise money and create solutions for the poverty, hunger, polio, lack of economic and educational resources and lack of water in his home country – Ethiopia.

When Rose Alyce Thayer of Springfield VT lost her daughter to a serial killer, she converted her personal grief into a campaign to save other children, lobbying for stalking laws, immediate-search laws for missing children, and victim/witness advocates. She personally aids survivors, sometimes taking them into her home, and maintains an 800 number for victims of violent crime.

Anthony Thigpen of Los Angeles CA bypassed handsome job offers to create Jobs with Peace, a grassroots effort to champion the needs of the poor over those of the military-industrial complex. Thigpenn's slogan is "Childcare/not Warfare."

Jack Ward Thomas of LaGrange OR, a US Forest Service biologist for 24 years, headed up the scientific committee that drew up the plan to protect the spotted owl, even though he knew controversy was inevitable and might endanger his career. Thomas received personal threats but stood behind the scientific accuracy of the report.

Matt Thomas of Palo Alto CA dropped out of medical school to start Model Mugging, an original and highly effective program that trains women to defend themselves from attackers. As their trainer and a “model mugger,” Thomas was frequently knocked out and had several bones broken.

William Thomas is a physician who believes nursing homes should be places for living, not dying. Defying naysayers and regulators and putting his own career at risk, Thomas added pets, houseplants, children and gardens to the New York facility he directs.
