Judy Thorslund of Langley WA is a recovering alcoholic and a survivor of domestic abuse who has devoted her life to helping other women follow her into clean, sober, safe lives. Doug Thron of Arcata CA climbed a fence onto timber-company land in the Headwaters Forest and photographed the massive cutting of ancient redwoods. He then dropped out of college to show his pictures across the country, urging people to demand that the Headwaters be purchased by the federal government so the centuries-old trees can be saved.

Kip Tiernan of Boston MA walked away from a 20-year career in advertising to join an urban ministry and start Rosie's Place, the first women's shelter in the country. Tiernan has organized more than two dozen social services for the poor in the greater Boston area.

Joyce Tobias of Annandale VA went into action when she learned that her two oldest children were doing drugs. But she didn't just take care of her own family crisis; she also started the Parents' Association to Neutralize Drug and Alcohol Abuse. PANDAA has been successful in implementing tougher regulations in the schools and courts and in educating parents about drug abuse.

Keith Torney of Billings MT braved threats from aryan supremacists and helped lead the community in resisting intimidation by aryan supremacists. Cheryl Tornga was concerned about all the kids in the world who were alone, hungry and cold, so she adopted 17 of them. Children from Asia, Africa, and Central America have to come live in her eight-bedroom home and to move about in the school bus Tornga uses as the family car.

Lou Torok of Cincinnati OH jeopardized his own parole by starting Prison Pen Pals, defying regulations that forbid former inmates from dealing with current inmates. Torok was sure that the exchanges were so important to the success of inmates when they re-entered society, that he refused to stop.

Editor Mark Trahant, formerly of Phoenix AZ, turned the Navajo Times Today from a debt-ridden weekly filled with tribal-council press releases into an award-winning daily that covered both national and local news, and took strong editorial positions. Tribal leaders fired Trahant and his Native-American reporters, returning the paper to its previous, safe format.

Mary Trainor of Worcester MA suspected that the minister she assisted was abusing refugee girls that he'd brought into his home. She protested through the church's chain of command, despite warnings to keep quiet. Even though the minister was convicted of rape and assault, Trainor is still harassed by his supporters and cannot find another job in her church.

Jim Trappe, a professor at Oregon State, knew nothing about prisons until his adopted son "arranged for me to become acquainted with the system." The younger Trappe decided to start a magazine featuring stories and art by prisoners. Certain that it was a sound idea, Jim Trappe took out a second mortgage on his home to pay for the first few issues. When some prison officials refused to allow inmates to contribute to or receive the magazine, Trappe contested their policies on First Amendment grounds, winning every case.

Janet Trinkaus sold her farm and many of her possessions and set aside her career to start Rise n' Shine, a Seattle-based foundation for children affected by HIV and AIDS. From modest beginnings, Trinkaus enlarged the operation to serve hundreds of children.

Rick Trout of Tavernier FL blew the whistle on cruel procedures used by the Navy in training dolphins to kill. Discharged from his job as a trainer, Trout was threatened with prosecution for revealing the secret program, which was nevertheless put on hold.
