Zealand, Faye

Terrence and Faye Zealand have both been named “Giraffes” for starting the Aids Resource Foundation for Children.

In May 1987 the Zealands started St. Clare’s, a model program to provide a temporary home for HIV-infected children and children with full-blown AIDS who are healthy enough not to require hospitalization. These orphaned or abandoned children get tender, loving care and medical attention from the St. Clare’s staff while they are waiting to be placed with foster parents. There are St. Clare’s homes in Jersey City, Elizabeth, and Neptune. Terry and Faye Zealand’s AIDS Resource Foundation for Children runs three homes in Newark for kids who would otherwise be boarding in New Jersey hospitals. ARFC also provides a myriad of essential services to hundreds of children and families dealing with AIDS.

There are many HIV-infected children who live out their lives in hospitals because they have no place else to go.

Terence Zealand quit his secure, well-paying job as director of Collier School to work with his wife Faye, a former pre-school teacher, on building the Aids Resource Foundation.
